In a thrilling semifinal clash at the Hero Asian Champions Trophy 2024, hosts China outplayed Pakistan in a dramatic shootout to secure a historic spot in the final for the first time. After a tense 1-1 draw during regular time, China triumphed 2-0 in the shootouts, thanks to the remarkable performance of goalkeeper Caiyu Wang, who denied Pakistan any chance of scoring.

The match, held at the Moqi Hockey Training Base, saw China take the lead early in the 18th minute when Yuanlin Lu delivered a powerful drag-flick into the net. However, Pakistan fought back, with Ahmed Nadeem leveling the score in the 37th minute. Despite several attacking moves from Pakistan, China’s defense held firm, thwarting their opponents and pushing the game into a shootout.

In the shootout, Benhai Chen and Chanliang Lin found the back of the net for China, sending the team to their first-ever Asian Champions Trophy final. Yuanlin Lu, named Hero of the Match, expressed his pride and excitement, saying, “We came into this match prepared and full of enthusiasm. It’s a great moment for us.”

China will now face India in the final on Tuesday, September 17, in what promises to be an exhilarating conclusion to the tournament.
