PIA inaugurates weekly international flight operations with PK-197 to Muscat

The aviation landscape in Pakistan achieved a significant milestone as international flight operations commenced from the newly inaugurated New Gwadar International Airport. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the country’s national carrier, marked this momentous occasion by launching its first international flight, PK-197, to Muscat, Oman.

The inaugural flight departed with 39 passengers on board, signaling the start of a new chapter in Gwadar’s connectivity to the world. Local PIA officials at Gwadar Airport were present to bid a heartfelt farewell to the passengers, highlighting the national importance of this milestone.

Initially, PIA plans to operate one flight per week between Gwadar and Muscat, with future plans to explore additional international routes based on demand and feasibility. This strategic decision aligns with the broader vision of making Gwadar a hub of regional connectivity and international trade.

PIA reiterated its commitment to enhancing its flight operations in alignment with national aspirations and the evolving needs of the public. “The commencement of international flights from Gwadar will not only boost the local economy but also serve as a vital link for overseas Pakistanis and travelers seeking direct routes to Oman and beyond,” stated a PIA spokesperson.

The New Gwadar International Airport, one of Pakistan’s most significant infrastructure projects, is expected to play a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of the region. Equipped with modern facilities and designed to handle a growing volume of domestic and international passengers, the airport is poised to become a key player in regional connectivity.

This development is also a promising sign for Gwadar’s future, as it transitions into an international gateway for trade, tourism, and business. The introduction of flights like PK-197 demonstrates a step towards fulfilling the promise of Gwadar as a key node in Pakistan’s economic development strategy.
